Newly seeded lawn care guide
You will want to water 2-3 times a day for 10-15 minutes each time until the majority of the seed has sprouted (approximately 1- 2weeks). The goal is to moisten the soil but not to the point where you have standing water or run-off, then not to let it dry out completely between watering. After the seed has sprouted you can back it down to once a day for one more week. After the third week every two days at 15-20 minutes should be enough water. You may mow when the new grass has reached 3 inches. Be sure to let the lawn dry out a bit before you mow and water after if needed as to not cause any unnecessary compaction.
New sod lawn care guide
After the sod is installed you will want to keep it watered 2-3 times a day for the first week at 20-30 minutes on spray heads and 30-60 minutes on rotor heads each time. It is important to keep it almost too wet to walk on for the first week so that your soil can mesh with the soil in the sod and the roots can grow easily. After that you may back the water down to once a day or every other day to maintain moisture. Periodically you will want to try and pull up a corner on several pieces of sod, if you hear a tearing sound and can see the new white roots coming out of the bottom of the sod you can start watering less. After the third week your sod should start rooting in well and you can back the water down to every other day or every two days until it roots completely. If your sod starts rooting earlier than the third week you may back the water down earlier. You may mow as soon as the sod has rooted well and you have stepped back watering.
